USCAA offers Recreation Basketball for girls in grades 1 through 6 and Travel Basketball for girls in grades 4 through 8.
Recreation basketball is intended to give the kids exposure to the game and develop skills through practice and game play starting in January and running into the first week of March. The coed 1st and 2nd grade program will run one night a week (typically on Saturday night) with focus on basic skill development progressing to introductory short sided games. Girls in grades 3/4 and 5/6 will be assigned to teams coached by USCAA volunteers. Teams will typically practice one night a week with games scheduled every Saturday for the duration of the program.
Travel basketball is the competitive basketball offering in Upper St. Clair for girls who wish to play against other local teams in a competitive environment. Teams are selected based upon skill at our annual evaluations, typically held in October, with the goal of forming 2 teams per grade. Travel basketball teams participate in competitive leagues with other local townships and in tournaments. In addition, we host our own tournament in February. The travel basketball season starts in November and runs through March. To qualify for travel basketball, in addition to other requirements, a player must register and participate fully in recreation basketball.
